Even Start Family
Literacy Program
Teaches parents and their children up to five years
of age. Parents learn necessary English literacy
and parenting skills, and children are prepared
for future school success. Components include English-as-a-Second
language for parents and children, hands-on computer
instruction, early childhood education, parenting
education, and Parents and Children Together (PACT)
activities. Our goal is to break the cycles of
poverty and illiteracy among our families and prepare
their children to succeed in the public school
system.
Parenting Education
Children’s Health Center at Adams Morgan
Clinic collaborates with TFP to provide the parenting
program. The 10-week curriculum requires participants,
particularly those referred by the court, to
commit to the class schedule. Parents explore
parenting skills their parents used in raising
them, evaluate their own parenting skills, and
increase their knowledge of positive parenting
techniques.
