Our Mission
The mission of The Family Place Public Charter School is to improve the literacy and workplace skills of adults who want to learn English, and improve their income and careers so that they and their families can have a better life, find employment, and become more active in their community.
In 2018, The Family Place opened its doors as a DC Public Charter School. Any adult, 18 years or older, who is a resident of the District is eligible to enroll in free instruction at The Family Place Public Charter School
Educational Services
English as a Second Language
We offer three levels of ESL classes from beginning through advanced adult secondary ESL. Students will gain fluency and proficiency to read, write, speak and understand English.
Foundations of Literacy
This program will improve basic Spanish literacy skills for native speakers. Students can earn a certificate of elementary and secondary education based on the Modelo Educación para la Vida y el Trabajo (MEVyT) [Guideline on Education for Life and Work] from the consulate of Mexico.
Child Development Associate
This is a bilingual program to earn the qualifications to work in a child care facility. Individual whom complete this course will become certified for infants and toddlers care. This is an accredited program based on the Council for Professional Recognition’s competency standards.
