Our School turned 5! Celebrate with us and enjoy our spring updates...

Thank you for being part of our Family!

WE’RE CELEBRATING THE POWER OF ADULT EDUCATION!

5-year Anniversary of The Family Place Public Charter School

In 2018, The Family Place opened its doors as a DC Public Charter School. We celebrated our fifth anniversary and passed our 5-year review by the DC Public Charter School Board on March 20th. We are excited to continue our mission to improve the literacy and workplace skills of adults who want to learn English, increase their income, and build their careers.

We thank our founder, Dr. Ann Barnet, our staff, board members, students, and everyone who has supported our mission over the past 5 years.

Happy anniversary TFPPCS! 🥳💙🎉

UPCOMING EVENTS AND CELEBRATIONS

Celebrating Children and Mothers

On Thursday, May 4th we will celebrate Children’s Day and Mother’s Day with our families at Carter Barron Park from 10am-1pm.

We will have games for kids, gifts for mothers, and food to share! All families are welcome!

WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO...

African American History Museum

On February 23rd we visited the African American History Museum and had a good time with our families.

Valentine’s Celebration ❤️🍫

We had a wonderful Valentine’s Day celebration with our community! We showed love for each other, shared chocolates, and worked on some arts and crafts with the children and their parents.

Enjoy some our memories here.

Duolingo Winter Challenge 2023🏆

We want to give a huge shout to our students who won the “Duolingo Winter Challenge 2023”. Thanks to everyone who participated and took advantage of this opportunity to improve their English through this fun competition.  We are proud of all of you!💚💙

Women's History Month

Our Women's History Month activities included the creation of a mural to honor extraordinary influential women who made history and impacted our communities with their art, music, activism, and politics. We also shared on our socials some of the origins of the commemoration of International Women’s Day. Most of our students and participants are immigrant women of color and we took this opportunity to honor their struggles and their contributions to our history.

Memorial for Mr. Calvin Cafritz

On March 29th we attended Mr. Calvin Cafritz’ memorial. His foundation was one of our first donors 40 years ago. We honor his life and work and are extremely grateful for The Morris and Gwendolin Cafritz Foundation’s support and commitment to our mission!

Other events...

We are happy that our staff represented The Family Place and The Family Place Public Charter School at the 2023 COABE NATIONAL CONFERENCE Elevate to a higher level (April 5-6), the TESOL 2023 International Convention & English Language EXPO (April 3-4), and the HIPPY US Conference (April 16-19). They showcased our programs, services, our opportunities for involvement and connected with other organizations and individuals in the DC area.

TICKETS TO HAPPINESS

We are deeply grateful and excited to our friends from Tickets For Kids. Many TFP families have been able to attend musicals, Christmas shows, football games and other fun events. Thanks to this amazing partnership!

NATIONAL VOLUNTEER MONTH

During National Volunteer Month we want to thank our volunteers for their passion, service and for making our mission possible.
