45 Years Supporting Families to Thrive! 🎉

Since 1980, TFP has proudly served as the District’s first family support organization, initially focused on supporting positive birth outcomes for low-income women.  Over the years, our programs have expanded to meet the evolving needs of low-income families—including immigrants—becoming a trusted “first contact” agency for vulnerable individuals.

In 2017, we established The Family Place Public Charter School (TFPPCS) to enhance adult literacy and employment opportunities, strengthening our commitment to the two-generation (2Gen) approach. Today, our services range from, Early Childhood Education and home-visiting programs like HIPPY to family stability, case management, domestic violence support, and evening ESL classes.

These milestones are possible thanks to our founder, Dr. Ann Barnet, dedicated board members, Executive Director Haley Wiggins, staff, partners, and—most importantly—our participant families. They are the heart of TFP!

Here’s to many more years of empowering families and fostering the optimal development of children. Thank you for being part of our journey!

Winter Highlights

Happy 95th Birthday, Dr. Ann Barnet!

On January 18, we had the honor of celebrating the 95th birthday of our founder, Dr. Ann Barnet! Over 45 years ago, she began this beautiful journey with a vision to support positive birth outcomes for low-income women. Thanks to her dedication and passion, our programs and services continue to expand, meeting the evolving needs of our community while staying true to the values Dr. Barnet instilled from the very beginning.

We honor her life and legacy of transforming the lives of women, children, and families in need. Dr. Barnet, we wish you many more years of inspiration and guidance as we carry forward with your mission.

Spreading Joy: Our Year-End Toy Distributions Made a Difference!

At the end of last year, we hosted multiple toy distribution events, bringing joy and holiday cheer to families in our community!

The first event took place on November 15, 2024, thanks to the support of Samu First Response. A total of 252 children attended, and 504 toys were distributed to kids between the ages of 2 and 14. Additionally, we received a generous donation of approximately 300 toys for children under 3 years old from Collaborative Solutions for Communities (CSC), which we distributed during our big giveaway before the winter break.

On December 18, we held another distribution event made possible by donations from our Giving Tuesday campaign. In the following days, December 19 and 20, we provided toys to over 400 children, from newborns to 12-year-olds. Thanks to the generous support and donations from Toys for Tots, we could also serve as a Toys for Tots Community Hub, extending this holiday joy to even more neighborhood families.

Together, we distributed over 1,000 toys, making this holiday season extra special for hundreds of children and their families. Thank you for your generosity and support! 🎁✨

Lucia and Her Child’s Dedication: Nurturing Growth Through HIPPY

Lucia, a HIPPY mom, faced the challenge of having a child with language delays. Through our HIPPY program, she accessed speech services and received a curriculum to implement at home. With dedication, she worked closely with her child, building connections through shared learning. Balancing the care of her child, she embraced the role of a loving teacher, providing tailored support to meet his unique needs.

Her story reflects the heart of the HIPPY program, which empowers parents to be actively involved in their children’s early education, fostering their development, strengthening their bond and opening doors to a brighter future.

2025 Resolutions

  • Empower Generations: Continue transforming lives through the Two-Generation approach.

 As always, THANK YOU!!!
